Mercer and the Landscape Finance Lab held a second workshop in their "Unlocking High-Impact Nature Investments" series in London on 19 May 2025. Participants from across a select group of asset owners, philanthropists and foundations explored transformative ideas and actionable strategies in nature investments.

The closed-door event facilitated discussion into how to maximise financial returns and impact through a better understanding of landscape portfolios, and offered participants a forum in which to identify how to develop nascent nature finance pathways.

The report summarises the key themes and takeaways from those discussions and identifies three main focus areas to accelerate nature investments:

  1. Design clear capital continuum pathways. Create structured financing models that connect philanthropic, impact, development, and institutional capital. A well-defined capital escalator enables scaling by matching risk appetite and return expectations across investor types.
  2. Tell a compelling, evidence-based story. Communicate the value of nature investments by clearly articulating both the financial risk of inaction and the long-term return potential. Use credible data to frame nature as a strategic, investable asset class rather than a philanthropic cause.
  3. Create collaborative platforms for co-creation. Establish spaces where buyers, investors, project developers, and technical experts can align early. These platforms reduce transaction costs, improve project quality, and accelerate the development of bankable opportunities.
